March 1 - Sea Day #6

Sunday, March 1, 2026

Going eastbound on a cruise isn't near as fun as going the other way...we lost another hour of sleep overnight. Bob was still fighting his cold symptoms so I let him sleep and went to meet Jon and Michelle for breakfast. (I insisted Bob take a Covid test...it was negative.)

Now that I knew how, I tried ordering eggs Benedict and surprisingly the food was delivered right to my table in less than 10 minutes. There weren't many people in the buffet so it might take longer at other times. Bob eventually showed up and we sat with him while he ate.

The gal serving coffee in the Cafe Caribe area was from Zimbabwe and we asked her if she knew our waiter, Ian (from the same country.) Her response? EVERYONE knows Ian! He was also on duty in the buffet so she went and got him and we had fun chatting. The two of them are the picture of happiness...full of smiles and big laughs!

No one had any definite plans for the morning. Jon and Michelle went their own way while Bob and I went back to the room. He plopped down on the bed and started a movie while I painted. Bob loves watching movies and it is a treat for him to have so many choices and lots of time to watch!

At 10:15 I went to the Michelangelo dining room to pick up tickets for the flower lei making class for Michelle and I. The line extended through the dining room and out the door!! I was able to get two tickets for the 2:00 class.

While I was in that part of the ship I went and quickly looked through the shops. It was amazing that after being on the ship for so long that was the first time I had stepped foot in the shops! I wasn't really looking for anything special so just browsed. I then went to the internet cafe where I could use a computer to access the Princess website. I wanted to see if there were any excursions listed for our new port of La Paz on the next cruise...not a single one had been added. By losing Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo, we were down to only three ports on an 11 day cruise. Cabo will be an overnight port but at this point we don't have any definite plans for either day.

Bob was still into his movie when I got back to the cabin so I continued to work on my watercolor painting until it was time for lunch. We hadn't learned our lesson yet and showed up at the buffet right at noon for lunch. Almost every single table was occupied and many with just one person. By going to the very back of Cafe Caribe we grabbed a table just as a man was getting up to leave.

One of my Hawaii inspired paintings.

After lunch Michelle and I went to the flower lei class and it was real flowers! Aninia (from Jamaica) was teaching the class and we had a little time to visit with her while we were working. When I returned to the cabin I found a plate of chocolates and chocolate covered strawberries with a note saying they were compliments of the food and beverage staff. Just like Jon and Michelle's, this was most likely a thank you for giving our opinion on the food service.

Bob and Jon spent the afternoon up on Deck 16 watching a movie on MUTS (Movies Under the Stars) and then played in a dart tournament. I decided to pair my new lei with my Hawaiian dress for dinner but at the last minute decided wearing the flowers all evening might be uncomfortable so switched to a shell necklace that I had bought in Hawaii a decade ago.

Before dinner we went to the Captain's Circle party for Gold and Ruby members. It was held in Club Fusion and the Kava Duo were playing. It took a long time before we were offered any drinks and we never did get served any of the canapes being passed around.

We went straight from there to the dining room. It is so much fun to see our waiters, Ian and Lokesh, every evening at dinner! For his main course, Jon ordered the veal with lemon butter. He took one bite that had a very strong lemon flavor and it made him start to choke (something he deals with occasionally.) He first went to the bathroom and then returned but was still having problems so he left before dessert and went back to their room. Michelle got a cover for his dessert and took it back for him to have later.

By the time we got to the theater for the 7 pm show, very few seats were available. I was lagging behind Bob going into the theater and when he tried to save me a seat, a lady sat down in it and told him there was no seat saving. I got there within 2 minutes but by then were were no more seats in the upper level so we had to walk downstairs to find a seat. (Ugghh. Going DOWN stairs is more painful to my knee than going UP.)

Jefferson McDonald was on stage with a show entitled: "Great Balls of Fire".  The description stated that he blends comedy with musical hits and was billed as the "Victor Borge of Rock N Roll"! I hadn't cared if we went to the show or not, but it did turn out pretty funny. Jefferson interacted and joked with the audience a lot which is always fun.

The evening ended as most sea days do with cards in the buffet area. We brought up the plate of chocolate covered strawberries to share. We hadn't played the game since our last cruise with Jon and Michelle so we had to re-learn how to play "Hand & Foot". It has a lot of rules (especially for me!) but as we played I started to remember how to play. Jon would have like to play another hand, but I called it quits at 9:15. Bob seems to be feeling better but a little extra rest never hurts.
