February 21 - Sea Day #2

Saturday, February 21, 2026

It was still dark when I woke up, but the bed felt so good that it was after daylight before we crawled out. Bob quickly got dressed and went to walk on the promenade deck. I got dressed and saw Jon & Michelle on the balcony ready to go to breakfast. The three of us went and then Bob joined us after he finished walking.

The seating area in the buffet was just as crowded today as it was yesterday and it was frustrating trying to find a table. I don't remember ever having this much trouble on HAL. We have also noticed that the food on the buffet is barely warm. But since it is only the second full day of the cruise, I will withhold judgement for now. The one aspect that we all agree we like on Princess is having the medallion instead of a key card. It is so nice (and convenient) to just walk up to the cabin and have the door unlock instead of digging for a card. And I especially like the feature where I can track the location of Bob, Jon and Michelle on the app!

We came back to the cabin for awhile after breakfast. I sat on the balcony for sometime and it was almost too warm in the sun. I updated my blog while Bob watched TV. One of the nice things about extended cruises is that we can just relax since we don't feel the pressure to get to EVERY activity.

Jon texted that he wanted to go play mini-golf. (I'm still not sure how or why we are able to text each other but it is SO much more convenient than using the chat feature on the Princess app.) When we got to the golf course on top of the ship on Deck 19, it was extremely windy...but we played anyway. We laughed through the whole game because the wind was blowing our balls all over the place!

I laugh when I look at this photo, but it was so typical.
Bob was wearing a winter coat and Jon was in shorts and sandals.

It was crazy windy on the top deck!

From golf, we transitioned into corn hole (bean bag toss) with the guys against the girls. That went a little better since it was in an area that was blocked from the wind. Oh...and the girls won! 😉 The guys wanted to check out the sports court and they and Michelle played a quick game of PIG on the basketball court.

Michelle had to leave to go get her laundry (following the hairspray debacle) moved into the dryer. Bob and Jon made a feeble attempt at playing pickleball but with the wind there was no way that was going to work. Bob was disappointed in the pickleball courts (especially compared to HAL). The court layout was not marked correctly and the nets were broken. He brought his own paddle hoping to play during the cruise, but I doubt that he does.

For lunch, Michelle requested we go to the Salty Dog Grill by the pool. Bob and Jon made a quick stop at the buffet to first get a salad and then we all ordered either a hotdog or burger which we ate by the pool. It was a little breezy, but comfortable enough to enjoy our meal.

The destination talk of the day was in Club Fusion and covered the island of Kauai. We got there early enough to play a quick card game of "Golf". I am just learning the game, but never do well at cards.

The Hawaiian ambassadors, Nalukai and Kamaki, were just finishing up the hula class in Club Fusion and I enjoyed listening to Kamaki play his ukulele. A nap attack hit during the Kauai presentation so when it was over we came back to the room. I took the bed, and Bob napped on the balcony.

After a quick nap, we all went to the Explorer's Lounge for Globetrotting Trivia but it wasn't run well. They had slides of different places to identify and then you had to also decide if it was a location that Princess sailed to. The concept was OK, but the majority of the slides were just flags. And then there were some places that Princess didn't sail to, but did offer land tours. Basically everyone was confused and the rules kept changing throughout the game.

Our dinner reservation was set for 5:20 each night, but Lokesh said the table would be available and we could come as early as 5 pm if we wanted to get done sooner to get to the show so we decided to go just a little sooner. An announcement had been made earlier in the day that due to the ship movement, the production show "Magic to Do" was being moved to the next night. In its place, singer Todd Adamson would be performing.

We actually planned to skip dessert to get out of the dining room sooner, but Lokesh served us fast enough that we had time for dessert and coffee and were still done by 6:30 pm.

I hated these stairs going into the theater. They were extra hard for my knee and there was something about the green lights along the edges of the steps that made me feel like I was going to have a seizure! Once I learned there was a wheelchair entry I avoided the stairs!

The theater was pretty full when we arrived, but we found seats easily enough. Todd had an incredibly strong voice and lots of energy. We found out that he is actually the lead singer that we will see performing tomorrow in the Magic to Do show.

After the show in the theater, we wanted to listen to AJ Clark (that did the show on the first night) perform Neil Diamond songs, but the place was packed. Our luck wasn't any better when we got to the Explorer's Lounge for the "Yes-No" game show. We ended up on a couch and two chairs just outside the lounge where we could hear, but not see what was happening. The contestants were interviewed and to win, they couldn't respond to any question with the words yes or no.

The last contestant was a girlfriend of the entertainment staff doing the interviews (Julian?) She was doing well in the competition until he said "will you marry me?" and she said YES! She lost the game, but ended up with a diamond engagement ring on her finger!

The evening ended with us in the Cafe Caribe area of the buffet playing cards. The area is not being used that time of night and we enjoy having a few snacks and drinks close by!
