During the night the ship was shaking and shuddering continuously to the point where I actually started to feel a little anxious. I wasn’t in fear of something bad happening, just that feeling that I couldn’t escape the motion.
Anyway…in the middle of the night I got up and dressed and walked the short distance to the end of the hall where the door lead out to the Terrace Pool. Feeling the fresh air and breeze seemed to help and eventually I was able to go back to the cabin and go to sleep…although fitfully.
I had been looking forward to attending the meet & greet for our Cruise Critic roll call that morning at 10 am and was so disappointed when I realized that it was scheduled at the same time as the Backstage Tour. The roll call had been a very active one and I was anxious to put some faces to the screen names that had been posting over the months leading up to the cruise. Unfortunately I had to make a choice between the two events and decided to go with the tour.
The tour took us into the tiny dressing room where we could see all of the costumes, wigs, shoes, etc. needed for the many production shows. It amazes me how fast the performers are able to make their costume changes and we learned that they have “helpers” who help them get out of one outfit and into the next. Their job titles? Strippers and Hookers!
There is a rotating clothes rack to hold all of the costumes that actually goes 3 stories up in the ship!
Due to the high cost of making the costumes, they are used for many years. Each performer is responsible for the cleaning and maintenance on their clothes. The dress in this next photo was covered with sequins and weighed a ton...and cost several thousand dollars. You can also glimpse of the monitor that the performers use to keep track of what is happening on the stage.
We also went on stage and learned about the ins and outs of changing sets during the shows. Here is the theater from the performer's point of view!
I had been looking forward to a quiet, relaxing sea day, but the morning ended up being full with all of the activities we attended. Next up was the Fruit & Vegetable Carving Demonstration in the Piazza.
The Piazza was so beautiful with all of the Christmas decorations.
The guys saw Goofy Golf on the schedule and thought it would be something they would enjoy so as soon as the vegetable carving demo was over we headed up to Deck 19. Turns out that it was just a putting contest…and a lame one at that. I guess I was expecting more of a miniature golf course…but found just a putting green. The “contest” took just a few minutes since very few showed up to participate.
Laurel and I took advantage of being up so high on the hsip to get some photos.
Next to the putting green was a bocce ball court. The four of us played for a bit before going to the Horizon Court for lunch.
While the others went through the buffet line, I made my way to the Prego Pizzeria and grabbed a couple of slices of pizza. I loved it…and managed to eat several more slices throughout the cruise!
There was a country line dance class at 1:30 pm that Bob, Kent & Laurel wanted to attend in Club Fusion. I wasn’t that interested and had been dealing with some knee issues so instead I grabbed my iPad and found a chair outside on the promenade deck in the shade under the lifeboats. Eventually I went back in and sat in the Piazza listening to music and people watching.
